The managers of Monitor’s organization are very good at squeezing employees. There may be a hundred reasons to exploit employees: For the sake of growth, you must work overtime and study harder; to meet customers’ high expectations and demands, you must work late into the night to do everything as well as possible; so the PM won’t lose their temper, you must work hard to debug and complete the project perfectly—perhaps you may even have to come in and work overtime on Saturdays and Sundays. You might think that, since the overtime hours are so long, there should at least be overtime pay, right? Don’t be ridiculous. Qisda is a habitual violator of the Labor Standards Act and basically has no such thing as overtime pay. If the company saves NT$3,000–4,000 in overtime pay per person each month, with several thousand employees, it can save nearly NT$10 million a month, or NT$100 million a year. Even when the labor authorities come to inspect every year, they only issue a fine of a few tens of thousands of dollars as a token gesture. If saving on overtime pay is so profitable, why pay it?

As for bonuses and performance bonuses, whenever bonuses are distributed each year, they always say that everyone should endure these difficult times together and not take too much this year, and that the company will pay more when it makes big profits next year. But when next year comes, the managers still say the same thing. Year after year passes, so that future never arrives. In short, the level of exploitation is one hundred percent; benefits and bonuses are cut wherever possible.
