Pros

You won’t starve (if you follow the rules properly).

Cons

Based on my experience before leaving after several years, the main reasons I wanted to leave a company that treats the Labor Standards Act as a ceiling were the salary and leave.

Salary: The base salary of 104,000 is written above, so I won’t elaborate. But the performance bonus calculation is extremely stingy. They also tie together products from different departments in all sorts of ways. Failing to meet the target won’t result in a pay deduction, but you’ll be asked to write a 300-word reflection on LINE (weekly/monthly). If you don’t write it, you’ll be asked to donate to the boss’s own foundation.

Leave: We normally work Monday through Friday, and sometimes have to work weekend shifts, which are compensated with compensatory leave. However, people at headquarters keep complaining that too many employees shouldn’t apply for leave at once. So, do you actually want to let me take leave or not?

The boss spends all day talking about how old he was when he started his business and saying that poor performance is because we aren’t working hard enough. Yet he is constantly coming up with ideas that block our marketing strategies, and strange orders occasionally come down (such as taking photos and checking in). Policies are unclear, but frontline employees are always the ones facing the pressure. There are several regional training sessions every year, and each time he says it’s a waste of his money to gather everyone for classes, but he himself talks for so long that he takes up the time actually needed for the training. So whose problem is it, exactly?
