Before the interview, I had to fill out a very detailed résumé, almost like a background investigation. During the interview, they also pressed me about my family members’ occupations, which I felt was highly disrespectful of my privacy. Throughout the process, they kept asking about my previous job’s salary, and in the end I only told them my expected salary.
After the interview, HR emailed me to continue requesting proof of my previous salary, saying it was needed for determining the offer. I asked about the salary range for the position and provided the salary documentation, after which HR disappeared and could no longer be reached.
Whenever I called, they were supposedly either away from their desk or out on business, which was very different from their proactive attitude when requesting proof of my salary.
Finally, I emailed again to ask about the interview result and immediately received a rejection notice…
I’ve heard that some companies use fake interviews to investigate competitors’ salaries. I don’t know whether I encountered such a situation, but they were genuinely obsessed with asking about the applicant’s previous salary.
