Leaving work on time, but the boss’s wife will complain about you behind your back to others
1. Poor benefits: The promise made during the interview that your salary would be adjusted after three months was just an empty promise from the boss’s wife to deceive people. NT$150 is deducted every month as a welfare fund. The three seasonal festivals, the spring banquet, and employee dinners are, in reality, all paid for with money employees themselves contributed.
2. Performance bonuses: During the interview, they made empty promises about strongly encouraging employees to earn performance bonuses. In reality, the boss and the boss’s wife keep discussing the performance-reward system with the executive assistant and changing the conditions. It has now been changed so that the combined results from Q1 to Q4 must exceed those of the same period last year in order to receive a bonus.
3. High performance pressure: The annual target is 30% growth. Every week, employees must prepare presentations and attend performance-review meetings. How the meetings go depends on the boss’s mood. Long-serving sales employees whose performance declines that month and who happen to encounter the boss in a bad mood can easily be harshly mocked by the boss during the meeting, with insulting remarks such as saying they are worse than a 7-Eleven clerk or a supermarket checkout cashier.
4. You cannot work independently; everything must be reported to the boss for him to decide, yet the sales staff are held responsible for the results. If performance grows, it is attributed to the company’s strong brand; if it declines, it is the sales staff’s responsibility.
5. In this company, the sales staff who generate revenue for the company have an even lower status than administrative staff. Employees in any department can order the sales staff around.
6. The marketing department lacks independent design capabilities. It mainly buys stock images or likes to make minor changes to customers’ designs and claim that it developed the designs itself. It also requires employees to continually send promotional emails to all customers, including the customers whose designs were original.
7. The boss and the boss’s wife place great importance on the number of emails replied to each day. As a result, some sales employees put the cart before the horse, frantically increasing their email count by sending spam promotional emails and competing to rank first in the number of emails sent.
8. The boss’s wife keeps creating cumbersome, lengthy SOP procedures, so sales employees spend much of their time doing standardized clerical work.
