The product is interesting, and the team seems easy to get along with.
The salary was not as high as expected, and I happened to have another offer in hand, so I engaged in offer competition. Although this offer was still not as high as the other one, I accepted it because I was interested in the company's product. However, when they were about to issue the formal offer document, they suddenly said that the manager's approval had not gone through. When I asked HR for the reason, they said: “The manager thinks you have a better offer, so they’re giving you the opportunity to take it!”
My internal reaction: The decision is mine to make, okay? Besides, if that was their intention, why didn’t they say so before I accepted?
I suffered an unpleasant setback during my job search. Quite a few people online have actually encountered similar situations. This may just be my personal experience, but I’m sharing it so everyone knows what to watch out for when negotiating an offer with this company. Also, when communicating with HR, they seemed very inexperienced, so you need to be very proactive yourself.
