德商默克在台集團_台灣默克股份有限公司
Pros

The manager is fairly talkative, which is the only advantage.

Cons

1. The manager whose English name starts with S was inconsistent and repeatedly went back on her word: I applied through 1X4 for a business analyst contractor position. Except for the initial phone call, all subsequent interview matters were handled personally by a manager, which is already different from the usual style of multinational companies. During the interview, she kept boasting about how good the salary and benefits were for Merck contractors and said that this position would continue to be available. At the end of the first interview, I specifically asked whether a second interview would be necessary. The manager said at the time that she could make the decision herself without one, and also said she would discuss the salary with HR. Yet that same day, she sent an email asking when I would be available for a second interview—what was that supposed to mean?

2. She did not explain the purpose of the second interview, making me feel as if I had been lured onto a pirate ship, and then asked me to decide as soon as possible when I could start because they were in a hurry. The day after the interview, the manager made me a verbal offer and required a response within two days; otherwise, they would look for a second candidate. I responded within the agreed two days but insisted on receiving a written offer. I then received a call from the manager (yes, another call from the manager—it was as if this company had no HR department), saying that her boss had already assigned someone internally to provide support, so the offer was no longer valid. What a coincidence that her boss happened to issue the instruction on the very day I responded. This position had been posted for almost a month, so it is obvious that they hired the cheaper option. The lying was extremely inept. Did she think she was the only person who had worked for a multinational company?

I strongly advise applicants to be careful with this manager and this company’s contractor positions, and to insist on receiving a written offer.
