The company is located in the Far Eastern Building, a well-appointed office building in downtown Taichung.
The interview was arranged by HR through 104 and a phone call. The incoming call displayed the name of Advantech Co., Ltd.
On the day of the interview, there was a standardized technology-industry paper résumé form, including work skills, aptitude, personal strengths and weaknesses, and other items, as well as a paper test. The paper test covered Java, PHP, and MySQL front-end and back-end web syntax.
The salary and benefits were as described on the recruitment website. There is no guaranteed annual salary; the year-end bonus is announced each year according to the company’s annual profits. Meal vouchers and other subsidies from the employee welfare committee are available to apply for each year. There is one more day of annual leave than required by the Labor Standards Act.
The interview placed considerable emphasis on academic background, work experience, and reasons for leaving previous jobs.
There are currently two open positions in this department. In addition to maintaining existing systems, the successful candidate would initially also need to take on MIS duties.
The systems being maintained include two existing systems, one in ASP and one in JSP, so they need someone with experience in these areas. There were two interviewers: one female manager and one technical colleague.
The manager’s attitude did not seem very respectful toward the interviewee. Instead of introducing herself, explaining the position in detail, or describing the company’s benefits, she kept asking, “Do you have any questions?”
It gave me a somewhat perfunctory and unsettling impression.
