Pros

Let me copy this down for you first.

※ R&D and design positions: housing rental allowance subsidies are provided for all positions! (Except for the Taoyuan–Hsinchu–Miaoli area)

1. A five-day workweek with two days off; overtime pay may be claimed in accordance with the law, or employees may choose compensatory leave.

2. Year-end bonuses and holiday cash gifts (gifts or gift vouchers); outstanding employees with more than two years of service who serve as project owners or team leaders participate in the annual performance bonus distribution.

3. Employee lunch subsidies, plus fully subsidized overtime dinners and meals for overtime work on holidays.

4. Free annual health checkups for employees.

5. The top-performing employee with at least three years of service is eligible for a million-dollar car-purchase bonus.

6. Annual domestic and overseas travel activities (subsidies are available for accompanying family members or partners): Nagoya, Gifu, and Toyama, Japan, in 2020; Seoul, South Korea, in 2018; Sabah, Malaysia, in 2017–2016; Tokyo, Japan, in 2014; Huangshan, Anhui, in 2013; the Forbidden City in Beijing in 2012; Singapore in 2011; and the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.

7. Year-end banquet lottery activities combined with one- or two-day employee outings (free participation for accompanying family members or partners).

8. Annual outdoor recreational and fitness activities (the company fully subsidizes registration fees for road races, walks, cycling outings, and other activities): the 2019 Far Eastern New Century Classic Marathon, the 2017 Hsinchu Far Eastern Marathon, the 2016 Hsinchu City Marathon, the 2015 Hsinchu Beipu–Baoshan Reservoir Road Race, the 2015 Hsinchu Breaking Wind Cup Cycling Challenge, and various road races of all sizes.

1. The boss loves seeing you work overtime—preferably the kind that looks like long-term care. He absolutely adores you for it.

2. “Outstanding employees” are determined by whatever the boss says. There are many older primates who have been there for a long time; forget about it if you’re a newbie.

3. The lunch subsidy is NT$35. If you don’t eat, you get nothing; you have to eat the company boxed lunch to receive the subsidy. Dinner is NT$100, and holiday overtime meals are NT$100 each.

4. It’s just a health checkup; newbies have to schedule a day off to go on a holiday.

5. As stated above, same as point 2.

6. Why was 2019 left out? Because only two people brought their own family members on the employee trip.

7. Attendance at the year-end banquet is mandatory. It’s not just about having one meal—you’re required to spend the entire holiday there.

8. You’re forced to participate in company-organized activities. (They’ll say, “TSMC’s Chang XX runs—if they run, why don’t you?”) When you hear this, remember to tell them: if I’m going to run, I’ll run next to Chang XX and ask what shampoo she uses. Her annual salary is over five million, okay?

Disadvantages

There are no disadvantages, only an abundance of advantages.

1. The basement parking lot is unbelievably huge, but it’s only for the boss’s large SUV—the one whose transmission broke and had to be replaced. Employees park on the street, thanks.

2. The office environment is exceptionally well maintained—just for appearances, thanks. The front looks nice; the back is XXX.

3. Thrifty and careful with household expenses: ask for an eraser and you get half a piece; ask for mechanical-pencil leads and you get three.

4. There is free bottled water for employees, because the regular faucets inside the company use underground X.

5. A good-looking, clean restroom. Would an ancient emperor use the same restroom as the common people?

6. The leader is clear-headed and eloquent; with one sentence, they can make ghosts X connected to X.

7. The leader is highly knowledgeable and asks many questions. Nobel Prizes in Literature, Natural Sciences, and Medicine all owe them a trophy. They know astronomy above and geography below, and can talk about everything from outer space to inner XX.

8. You can see many people, and one department hires at a ferocious pace. They only know whether a newcomer is male or female; they don’t know the person’s name. Like a gust of wind, they arrive quickly and leave just as quickly.

9. A certain security department is very concerned about colleagues. A four-limbed animal will wander around sniffing here and there. It carries that little piece of technological equipment, and no one knows what the heck it is doing.
