Cons

1. The location is difficult to find. I followed the building numbers on the street and ended up at McDonald’s, and only found the entrance after asking a nearby building manager. (The interview notification email did not clearly explain how to find the place. For a location that is difficult to find, you should clearly explain in advance how to get there, rather than only saying which metro line to take and which exit to use.) Even when I arrived at the entrance, I thought I had come to a warehouse. The front door was a large, completely opaque metal door, and the interview area inside was extremely cramped, like an internet café booth.

2. The manager I had exchanged multiple emails with had reviewed my sample work and thought it was OK, then arranged an in-person meeting to “discuss the details of the job.” However, the person who interviewed me turned out to be someone completely different. They were extremely arrogant and had not even read my résumé before the interview, asking me to go over it from the beginning. (I have worked for so many years—how could I possibly explain everything in one go? Why didn’t you read it beforehand?) The interviewer did not even know what I had majored in because they had not read my résumé. In the end, after seeing my major, they showed prejudice against it, and their attitude suddenly changed completely, as though they no longer wanted to hire me.

3. An interviewer who does not even give you a business card? Isn’t that a complete lack of basic courtesy? Does the company not print business cards (because the position is too junior)? Then at least introduce yourself more clearly. Is simply saying what your English name is supposed to count as an introduction? I do not even know your job title!

4. They had a very disrespectful attitude and thought highly of themselves. The entire office was filled with a strange, mysterious atmosphere. Every employee who passed by the small meeting “booth” turned around with a curious look and kept staring through the glass at the person being interviewed. What were they so curious about?

5. Usually, interviewers print out the applicant’s résumé to review, or bring a laptop into the meeting room to look at it. You did not print it out, and fine, you did not bring a laptop either—but you actually asked the candidate to provide another paper copy of the résumé and only looked at its contents during the interview. Where was your sincerity? Where was your efficiency?
