Pros

The manager was quite courteous during the interview, and the process was also quite pleasant. Unfortunately, even if the department manager approves of hiring you, you can still lose the opportunity because of a single word from senior management.

Cons

The biggest problem: HR

This deserves special mention. After the first interview, there was no news for an entire month. I called the department manager who conducted the interview and was told that they would check the status with HR. It turned out that calling the manager was quite effective: HR called me that same day to discuss the salary. I requested a different salary figure, and HR said they would reply the next day. A day later, HR still ignored me. They did not answer when I called, and they seem to really like calling job applicants after 9 p.m. Then they said the company could not offer that salary. After I accepted the figure from the previous call, they kept pressing me, saying, “Can you really accept it? If there is a gap, do you want to give up on our company?” <==== Is this something HR should say when recruiting talent? How arrogant?

The next day, HR called again and said they would only issue an offer letter after I lowered my expected start date and reconfirmed the salary. After everything was confirmed, they said on the phone that they would provide the offer letter by the day after tomorrow at the latest, and then started the internal process. During this time, the department manager called specifically to confirm the start date and chat casually.

After waiting two more days without hearing from HR, I called them. What followed was “dragging things out”: they said the vice president still had thoughts about the position and casually mentioned that the offer letter would not be issued after all. Well then, what were HR’s previous calls and confirmations for? They then requested a second interview. OK, fine. I went to the second interview.

Second interview: I was scheduled to interview with the vice president. I first interviewed with a cross-department manager, but then waited and waited without the vice president showing up. The department manager and HR kept coming in to apologize. That was strange—the time had been arranged with the job applicant in advance, yet after wasting someone’s time in this way, they simply asked me to go home and wait for further notice. Before I left, HR even said they would definitely provide an update the next day.

The next day, I did not receive the message until after 9 p.m. They rejected me on the grounds that the position was “temporarily closed for recruitment.” Once again, this is a typical company that gives you a verbal offer and then ghosts you.

Overall, it seems that HR at this company is merely a pawn being used by senior management. The junior managers appear to have little say. Senior management can overturn a candidate’s approval by the manager with just one word. Of course, senior management can do this at any company, but what I want to express is that this company’s HR is very inefficient and unprofessional. To put it bluntly, apart from being poor at lying, they cannot even maintain appearances. If you really want to apply to this company, my sincere advice is: do not take what HR says too seriously. They are very good at putting on a show, and they will also waste your time. It is truly a shame for a startup company.
