The company orders meals for everyone.
They also cover dinner when working overtime in the evening.
Saves quite a bit of money.
A company where you can’t survive unless you suck up to the boss...
If you keep too low a profile, you’ll be criticized for not doing anything.
They drive people to the point of resigning, then everyone else has to take on their work, after which they say the others are inefficient and therefore need to work overtime—without overtime pay. There’s also one extremely nitpicky salesperson who may think they have high standards, but everyone else feels they’re just picking faults. The worst part is that the boss thinks this behavior is great and praises them for having such high standards. No wonder the efficiency is zero.
Whenever there’s an event, whether you’re in administration, accounting, design, or sales, everyone is expected to go provide support. You’d think you were a dispatched temporary worker. Even weekends aren’t your own; if something comes up and you can’t attend an event, they’ll hold it against you, single you out, and remember it until you resign :)
It’s a family business. The middle-aged male boss loves making awkward small talk. If you can’t keep the conversation going, he’ll say, “Why don’t you ever talk? You’re so quiet” (呵).
The boss’s wife is relatively okay, but she has a stronger need for control and is the type who wants to manage a little bit of everything.
There’s also a head of sales who seems not to know what they’re doing.
It’s best to casually let people know that your family is well-off or that you have some background; otherwise, it’s difficult to earn respect.
The workflows and task allocation are extremely chaotic. I understand that the company may be expanding or undergoing a transformation, but every meeting is about criticizing the people below, while the people above don’t even have a clear understanding of the division of work. It’s impossible to understand what exactly is being criticized, and the efficiency remains just as poor.
