Only after I got there did I find out it was a contractor under Yahoo. I had applied for a customer service position at Yahoo Shopping. Honestly, after being in the workforce for so many years, I’ve never encountered an interviewer whose interview made me want to fall asleep...
For about half an hour, they kept repeating that I would need to attend training—training, training, training—going around in circles over the same point. Eventually, I couldn’t take it anymore and interrupted them, asking them to move on to the next section. Otherwise, I think the interview would have lasted more than two hours...
The salary structure was also incredibly long-winded: achieve this condition and get a certain amount more, then meet that condition and get another amount more. It was enough to make anyone dizzy. You only get the 30,000-plus dollars listed on 104 if you meet all the conditions. Near the end, the interviewer was still very confident, saying that you couldn’t find customer service jobs with salary conditions like these elsewhere—only telemarketing jobs offered that. Where did they get that confidence? Did they really think their company’s salary was so attractive? A company that made me roll my eyes all the way to the back of my head!
