Don't know.
At first, I submitted my résumé to them, and the next day they closed the position on 104, but then called me to ask me to come in for an interview. In any case, after I went to their office for the interview, they gave me two programming questions to answer on a computer.
The first question was to print a slanted triangle of stars, and the second was their SQL question. I only completed the star question; I was rusty with SQL and hadn't reviewed it, so I couldn't solve it. Later, a male manager interviewed me. During the conversation, I felt that he seemed like a nice person and gave me some direction on things I could learn.
Since I couldn't solve the SQL question, I originally thought there was probably no hope. The following week, I received a call from them saying they wanted to send me to a second interview with a client. During this period, they asked me to do some SQL questions. It really wasn't a big deal, and I thought that since I would have to use SQL anyway, I could practice in advance. Because of this, I actually had a better impression of the company at first.
Unexpectedly, things quickly went downhill. I received a call from an HR representative saying she wanted to help package my résumé. I told her everything I could remember doing during my internship, but then realized that they didn't seem very satisfied. At this point, I already felt that something was unusual.
That afternoon, a female manager called me. Right from the start, she spoke to me very impatiently: “Do you know that we're doing this all for your own good? If you don't cooperate with us like this, how are we supposed to help package your résumé?”
I then explained my internship experience to her again, but she kept pressing me for more details.
The call went on for a long time, and I can't remember all the details now. In any case, I just kept getting scolded by her. Her tone sounded more like I was a beggar coming to them for food... She kept saying things like, “We're kindly willing to take you in and train you, and now you're refusing to cooperate,” blah blah.
(I had mentioned during the first interview that I wanted to pursue further training at the Institute for Information Industry.)
At that point, she used an online game as an analogy:
“You've played online games before, right? To level up, you have to keep fighting monsters and practicing. Which do you think is better: taking classes at the Institute for Information Industry or coming here to practice?”
She mentioned that there had once been someone from the Institute for Information Industry who still couldn't write programs after a year, giving the impression that attending the institute was useless. She also conveniently categorized me as someone who couldn't write programs at all and didn't practice.
Next came the part that made me the angriest, and it was what led to this post:
“Be honest: when you wrote the programming questions during the first interview, did you copy from Google?”
Honestly, when I heard that, I immediately wanted to hang up.
Whether I copied could be confirmed simply by having the company check its surveillance footage. Facts speak louder than words.
And besides... if I had to copy from Google just to print some stars... the company would be going under, wouldn't it?
There should be a limit to how much you look down on people.
Finally, she revealed something that shocked me.
They actually wanted to present the six-month internship I had previously completed as two years of work experience and send me to an interview with the client's PM.
Me: “Isn't that inappropriate? It feels like lying...”
Then, for some reason, she suddenly exploded:
“Fine. If that's how you see it, then we won't help you. We won't package your résumé, and we won't work with you either.”
In the end, I couldn't figure out why they had wanted to use me in the first place. If they thought I couldn't do anything and even had to copy from Google to print stars, why did they contact me at all?
