You can clock out at 5:30 p.m.
Some employees travel for work regularly: they may leave on Monday and not return home until Friday, and some assignments last for several months. Business trips to mainland China typically last about a month; after returning home, they may continue traveling again after only a few weeks. Travel expenses are reimbursed, but claiming travel expenses means you cannot claim overtime pay. Domestic travel expenses are less than NT$500 per day, and you must travel south past Taichung to claim them (for example, a department in Taipei must travel farther south than Taichung).
The scheduled working hours are short, but you cannot benefit from them when traveling for work.
The company has 400–500 employees, and half have less than three years of seniority.
You cannot claim overtime pay at the company. When things are busy, you do not dare leave before 7 p.m. unless everything is finished, and you often end up working even later.
At Yoctech, business trips and overtime are the norm. Those who neither travel for work nor work unpaid overtime are a minority. No one necessarily forces you to work overtime, but there is simply a lot to do.
New employees are often left to fend for themselves. Experienced employees generally have no time to look after or train them, so newcomers need a certain degree of self-motivation to survive. Of course, having a helpful senior colleague is a different story.
