Nothing... felt it.
Let me share the worst interview experience I’ve had since starting my career.
The position I applied for was “Marketing Supervisor.”
The company’s HR department called to schedule the interview, roughly arranging it two days in advance for an interview two days later.
The invitation email specifically noted not to be late and to give advance notice if the time needed to be changed.
On the day of the interview, I arrived 15 minutes early and waited at the reception desk.
Since I arrived early, I thought it was understandable that no one came out until the scheduled interview time had arrived.
The person who came out first gave me two forms to fill out: one was a personality assessment, and the other was a logic test.
The position I applied for was “Marketing Supervisor.”
After filling out the forms and entering my information, which took about 20 minutes, I handed them to the receptionist to pass along to the contact who had arranged the interview. That took about 10 minutes.
Then the contact came out and told me to wait a little longer—the manager was still in a meeting and would be out shortly!
At that moment, I was honestly dumbfounded. I thought, wasn’t this time slot arranged for my interview? And I was applying for a managerial position.
How could they still schedule a meeting that delayed the interview time...?
So the interview coordinator handed me a company brochure, probably more than 30 pages long. I finished reading the entire thing, and the interviewer still hadn’t come out.
I waited until the next hour mark. In total, I waited for more than an hour; excluding the time spent filling out the forms, I had waited at least half an hour.
I was extremely angry, so I packed up my bag and left immediately. Downstairs, I called the interview coordinator and told him that I had been there for more than an hour and still hadn’t seen anyone from the interview team.
I said that I assumed they weren’t very interested in filling the position, and since I had other things to do, I was leaving.
The person who answered the phone also sounded guilty and simply said, “Sorry...”
About two hours after I left, I received a call from the hiring manager, who asked why I had left. I explained what had happened, but he didn’t apologize.
He only asked to reschedule the interview for the next day, saying that he would have the COO interview me directly as well!?
Then he tried to give me some ridiculous excuse about how no one had told him that a candidate was coming to interview...
In the end, I politely but firmly declined. I told him I had never interviewed for a job with such a terrible attitude!
Although I had read the company’s reviews on Job Review Insight before going to the interview,
I thought I would still give it a try since it wasn’t far from my home.
I didn’t expect it to be such a complete disaster. Sure enough, the reviews on Job Review Insight really are worth taking into consideration!
