I worked at Xuanpin for more than two years and only left recently when my husband changed jobs and we moved to Taichung with our child.
It is difficult for outsiders to understand Xuanpin because it does not cling to tradition, is full of creativity, and places great importance on emotions. Once, my kindergarten-aged son had the flu and a fever, so I needed to take three days off to stay home with him. But my family also needed my income. After thinking it over, I called my supervisor. My supervisor said that I could simply work from home; I did not need to take leave, and my salary would not be deducted. Taking care of my child was more important. Later, when I was preparing to return to work, the first thing I was asked in a phone call was whether my child was feeling better—not about my work. I think this is just one of the many, many things about Xuanpin that touched me.
If you are thinking about working there, quality is highly valued. That is one important point. Another point is the sincerity the company often talks about: say things directly when something comes up. This company culture is very empathetic.
