Today I received a call from someone at JuX Human Resources who wanted to discuss the Japanese-language business assistant position at this company with me. I normally would not leave a review on Tianyan Tong, but after the conversation, I felt that, for the sake of others who may apply for positions at this company in the future, I had no choice but to leave one.
I only spoke with them by phone, but anyone seriously considering applying can use this as a reference, especially recent graduates entering the workforce.
1. Claiming that the part-time worker who previously left a review on Tianyan Tong did so maliciously to obtain severance pay
When I received the call, I happened to be looking at reviews of this position from two years ago. Because I was particularly concerned about labor and health insurance, I directly asked whether the company might have violated the law. The other person said that the issue had been caused by the part-time workers: the workers themselves had said they did not need to be insured, but later turned around and blamed the company for not providing labor and health insurance. They also said that the previous part-time workers were habitual offenders who deliberately acted this way in order to be laid off and obtain so-called severance pay. I did not process this at the time, but thinking about it later, it seemed rather strange: part-time workers deliberately trying to get severance pay...?
2. Believing that employees who have complaints about the company are not good employees
They repeatedly emphasized that they provide everything required by the Labor Standards Act and said that the company treats its employees fairly well, with labor and health insurance as well as annual leave (but aren’t these the bare minimum? So, apparently, simply not breaking the law counts as treating employees well.) Regarding the previous person’s review, they said that people who leave online comments criticizing the company are not very good employees. At that point, I could not help responding with a few words. The imbalance between labor and management in Taiwan is extremely serious. Of course, everyone has to judge for themselves how much truth there is in online reviews, but no one goes around posting negative reviews for no reason. If most people’s reviews of a particular company are not very positive, doesn’t that mean the company needs to improve? Rather than becoming the so-called “good employee” in this company’s eyes, I would rather share the information I obtained with workers, who are already in the relatively weaker position. That is why I am leaving this review. :)
3. No overtime pay
Earlier, the other person said that they provide everything required by the Labor Standards Act. The very next moment, they contradicted themselves by saying that because employees have different levels of efficiency, they were afraid that some people might cause overtime by repeatedly making mistakes or deliberately drag out their work to claim overtime pay. Therefore, they use performance bonuses instead. They also said that it would be unreasonable to receive overtime pay for working an extra half hour or hour. (At that point, I could not listen any longer and interrupted, telling them that regardless of the circumstances, what is owed should still be paid.) This is clearly illegal, although perhaps some people may accept this explanation. I do not really believe that a boss can completely and constantly keep track of every employee’s work situation.
-----------------------------------------
This is my first time leaving a review on Tianyan Tong. I was truly angered by the other person’s sarcastic comments about online reviews. Over the past few years, thanks to the people willing to put forward ideas for improving Taiwan’s employment environment, this platform has given everyone a chance to avoid some unnecessary hardships when job hunting. When employers receive feedback from employees or interviewees, it is one thing not to reflect on it, but to directly deny the value of the platform’s existence and everyone who worked up the courage to leave a review is truly unacceptable. Moreover, today we only had a phone conversation, yet it revealed a whole host of problems. Anyone planning to interview with this company—or looking for work through an agency that cooperates with this company—should exercise extreme caution.
