Pros

Basically, this is a company that tricks inexperienced newcomers into coming in and working as slaves!

Aside from the boss and the boss’s wife, all the other coworkers are very nice. Other than that, there really aren’t any advantages. The only thing you can probably learn is how to prevent a heartless boss from exploiting employees!

Cons

Although several different job openings are posted on the website, they are basically all the same position. Once you join, whether it’s warehouse work, graphic design, storefront sales, website planning and marketing... you will be expected to do everything.

The boss loves to make trouble. Whenever he assigns you something, he only explains half of it and expects you to figure out the rest yourself. If you ask him questions, he will sarcastically say that you can’t rely on other people to tell you how to do things. But when you actually complete the work, he will ask why you didn’t check with him first. In short, he finds fault with you in every possible way. When he is in a bad mood, he will randomly find an excuse to call you over and scold you, and you are not allowed to contradict him—even when he is wrong. Most outrageously, he will call all the employees together for a public criticism session.

There are really a lot of products inside, and everything is very disorganized, but no one will teach you the job in detail. If you try to study by looking at the product catalog yourself, the boss will think you are slacking off instead of working. Also, if the boss cannot see you on the surveillance-camera footage for more than ten minutes, he will start making announcements over the PA because he assumes you are hiding somewhere and slacking off! Even when the boss is out and not in the store, he will call back at any time to ask about your work progress. Then, regardless of whether you have customers or other tasks at hand, he will assign you a pile of additional things to do for him.

Basically, he will pay you whatever salary you ask for. But if you ask for more than NT$30,000, he will later find all kinds of excuses to cut your pay. If you ask for too little, he will treat you like cheap labor and exploit you at will!

On your first day, they only tell you what time you need to start work, without telling you when you can leave. (That day, they even hinted that I should continue working overtime.) When I asked, they gave a very vague answer. They also did not provide a work schedule for arranging days off; they only produced one after I proactively asked. Otherwise, they would pretend the matter did not exist and would not let you take time off.

Although the storefront offers sales commissions, there are actually no written rules specifying how much commission you can receive for a given amount of sales. It depends entirely on the boss’s mood.

At the time, they also required us to write a work diary every day, in great detail, recording what we did at what time—even the times when we ate lunch. On top of that, the place was dirty and hot, with lots of mosquitoes and fleas in the summer!

Finally, because employee turnover is so high, they basically will not immediately enroll you in Labor Insurance and National Health Insurance. They wait one or two months to make sure you will stay before enrolling you!

If you really want experience in sales, graphic design, or similar fields, any other company would be better than this place. At least you would not have to face verbal abuse and humiliation every day!
