12 hours a month, working the graveyard shift, with a salary of 36K—it seems like I’ve escaped the dreaded 22K.
(1) You work 12 hours a day and have to rotate onto the graveyard shift. During the interview, they verbally tell you that you’ll be given two months to adjust when switching from day to night shifts, but that’s a complete lie—they’ll only give you one day! Then they brush you off by blaming a staff shortage!
(2) Most importantly, your monthly salary will always be short, without exception. I was short by around 2,000 each month, though the exact amount varied. If you don’t fight for it and report it, they won’t make up the difference. Even after reporting the shortfall, they drag their feet for ages before paying the missing wages!
(3) Your monthly salary is transferred in two installments. I dreamed that someone told me it was to evade taxes; in the dream, someone told me that the senior management were very powerful and that no one could ever catch them out.
(4) During the interview, they make this position sound like it offers a dream salary of over 36K. In reality, if you don’t pass the test, you don’t even get 36K.
(5) This company completely ignores the Labor Standards Act. Even the statutory annual leave is treated as unpaid leave. When you challenge your supervisor, they just treat you like an idiot and wave some “Security Industry Act” at you to intimidate employees who don’t know what that law is, as if they had enacted it themselves. They blame everything on the Security Industry Act, claiming the company is covered by it—it’s utterly ridiculous.
(6) You are never allowed to leave work on time. After your shift, they make you stay for about one or two hours for meetings, without paying overtime. Even if you’re off that day, you still have to return to the company for the meeting; missing any meeting means a deduction from your pay. You’ll even be fined for not returning to the company for a meeting on your day off!
(7) At the morning meeting, the supervisor fires rapid, aggressive questions at you. If you can’t answer within five seconds, they deduct money from your pay too~
