Pros

If you're capable, it's easy to coast; even if you're not very capable, it doesn't matter—everyone has plenty of experience cleaning up messes.

Cons

1. The salary is acceptable, but there are occasional meetings after work (no overtime pay, but free boxed meals).

2. The manager is very good at Monday-morning quarterbacking. When sending you out, they always say they believe you can handle the client's problems well; once a complaint comes in, it's suddenly portrayed as you taking matters into your own hands and messing things up, followed by a meeting to single you out for review.

3. Deadweight teammates... everyone probably encounters them, but here you constantly have to clean up after them, and there are never any rewards or disciplinary consequences.

You have to take turns being on duty after work and on holidays. The on-call allowance for an entire month is NT$1,000—not even enough to cover the phone calls to clients.

4. Management never seems to recognize engineers' abilities or dedication. Those who coast and those who work very hard receive only a 1% difference in annual raises (roughly within NT$300). Raises and year-end bonuses are issued based on whether the manager feels like approving them. I've seen very capable employees receive only their base salary as a year-end bonus, while those who coast receive generous bonuses.

5. Overtime can be logged online, but whether it gets approved depends on whether the manager feels like approving it.

6. There are subsidies for phone bills and fuel costs, but of course, it still depends on whether the manager wants to provide them. At least, I have never successfully received the phone-bill subsidy; sometimes several fuel expenses are also deducted, and you have to re-enter the application.

7. Policies often change from one day to the next, and it always comes down to whether the manager feels like it.
