The boss is from mainland China, and so are his trusted associates. He has been permanently based in Taiwan, booking out the Mandarin Oriental for who knows how many years as if it were his own home. He also booked the presidential lounge on the 12th floor of Cashbox as his second home. He spends hundreds of thousands in a single night standing at clubs, day in and day out. The trusted associates he brought in are given titles such as director or general manager, and merely accompany him to clubs to have fun while earning hundreds of thousands a month. He desperately gives money to other tycoons and streamers, handing out hundreds of thousands or even millions, but ordinary employees should not expect to get a damn thing. Overtime is basically standard across all departments. For units that start at 10 a.m., it is completely normal to still be working at four or five in the morning. Do not expect overtime pay either; you should be grateful if you can occasionally claim compensatory leave. At the year-end banquet, he said he did not know that Taiwan places great importance on year-end banquet culture, nor did he know that Taiwan requires year-end bonuses. Last year, he even tried to muddle through it; this year, we can only see whether he has a conscience. The basic employee health check he mentioned still has not been provided after two years at this company. As a frontline employee, I have long regarded benefits as nothing more than floating clouds; all I asked was that the company not break the law. It turns out it cannot even manage that: there is nothing for excessive working hours, basic labor health checks, or anything else. He talked about taking employees on a company trip to drink beer on a beach, but instead he desperately spends money sending streamers around the world, while employees still get absolutely nothing. Only his trusted associates get to accompany him to clubs and entertain women on the company account. Employee salaries are low, but the demands are that you be a lion and remain on call 24 hours a day; you are given only a little dog food in return, while having to constantly tolerate him smoking everywhere in the office. It is a completely nouveau-riche mentality: he wants things done his way, treats employees like dirt, and cannot retain staff. Frontline employees in marketing, talent management, customer service, product, and other departments are constantly leaving, yet he never reflects on the benefits, compensation, or systems he provides. Even after people pointed out that there was insufficient manpower to take on new business that should not have been accepted, his own people quit. His attitude is: “I am not going to give you much, but you must help me get exactly what I want done as well as possible.” In the company’s early days, he still had the mindset of a mainland Chinese boss: Mainland boss: “I’ll work you to death, but I’ll give you some money for medicine.” Taiwanese boss: “I’ll work you hard, but I won’t be so cruel as to work you to death—and I won’t give you anything.” After the company’s boss became permanently based in Taiwan, it directly merged and upgraded into: “Not only will I work you to death, I won’t give you anything either.” He often compares us with 17. He has already pushed people to work to a level indistinguishable from 17, but you never see comparable compensation or benefits for the same positions and work. Remember that the company’s compensation and benefits are probably only about half of 17’s. His latest famous saying is: “You have to do better than 17, or get lost,” while completely avoiding any mention of compensation or benefits. As for frontline employees, even when he has no choice but to retain people, the only benefit he can offer is: “I’ll change your job title.” That is all. Your title becomes more impressive—specialist becomes senior specialist, senior specialist becomes team leader, team leader becomes supervisor, supervisor becomes deputy manager, and so on—but your pay is not adjusted. You are expected to shoulder more responsibility, with a promise that you may have a chance to get an adjustment if you perform well. He habitually keeps people with nice-sounding titles while giving them nothing, simply making them bear more responsibility. Perhaps he already feels that this promise is his great benevolence. He claims to be far-sighted, but often just plans an activity for a period of time and then suddenly takes the activity or system offline the moment he is dissatisfied with one thing. When the results are poor after his decisions, the people who get blasted are still you. His mentality is like a child’s. After desperately giving money to streamers, he even makes childish remarks at major public events when those streamers switch platforms. He cannot see that streamers simply want his money; if they can switch to something better, who would care about him? He was hurt when those major streamers left for 17 despite all the money he had given them, but afterward he still never thinks about the frontline employees who help him clean up the mess and take the blame. If you have worked in the livestreaming industry, do not come here unless you can negotiate your ideal salary; go directly to another livestreaming platform. If you have worked in the livestreaming industry and want to test the waters, be mentally prepared for limitless responsibility, mandatory overtime, and a state in which frontline employees are not treated as human beings. You can get some experience here, then move on to another livestreaming platform.
