The work is fairly good. Basically, things are busier from May to July, while during the rest of the year you can pursue further studies or work on your own projects. It is somewhat like a school: the President’s Cup competition is taken very seriously, the sports culture is thriving, and the fitness facilities are considered first-rate among companies in Hsinchu.
Compared with salaries in the Science Park, the pay is toward the lower end (though compared with industries nationwide, it is toward the higher end), so you need to budget carefully and spend sparingly. Given the cost of living and housing prices in Hsinchu, supporting a household is basically somewhat tight if you are not a dual-income family.
