Cloud Application Server Sales Specialist/Administrator - J1466

The professionalism and thoughtfulness shown during the interview made for a rare and funny experience. I’m sharing the entire interview below.

I dreamed I was at BU9 Server—well, it was a high-level interview with Ah-Hong Chen (Wu Yue-Tian? Ah-Xin? No side job, 35–40 years old, dark complexion, 175–180 cm, 2.0 vision in both eyes). For everyone’s reference and learning. SMAX gogogo

(1) Tell me what you did before!

***In the opening five minutes, I introduced my previous work experience and responsibilities. Ah-Hong then asked the second question...

(2) Why did you leave your previous company? I don’t understand! Wasn’t Company XX good?

Answer: Toward the end, the collaboration and rapport within my previous team had reached their limit. I felt it was time to change environments and take on a new challenge as part of my career planning. Two years in my previous position was sufficient, and I felt I had done right by myself and the team.

Ah-Hong: I don’t understand! I think two years isn’t enough! I don’t understand!

No matter how I explained or gave examples... Ah-Hong just kept repeating “I don’t understand” in an endless loop.

(3) Draw one of the diagrams from Intel’s roadmap for me!

Answer: In the past, I would review Intel’s roadmap to gather information, but to be frank, I don’t know how to draw the item you’re referring to. I truly haven’t worked with this area before. I’m sorry.

Ah-Hong: You can’t draw it? Every company’s PM can, right? I’ve also done the PM work you did! How am I supposed to continue this interview?

Answer: Honestly, drawing this diagram was not part of the division of responsibilities in my previous role. The division of responsibilities for PMs may differ somewhat between companies.

Ah-Hong: PMs are all the same! I’ve also done the PM work you did!

Answer: PM job descriptions are broadly similar, but there should still be differences between teams at different companies!

Ah-Hong: Forget it! I don’t want to argue with you about this anymore! (shaking his head and looking into the distance)

***The position being applied for was a “sales” role, and Ah-Hong clearly didn’t understand the situation.

(4) If you don’t explain why you left your previous company, I don’t know your personality traits, and I don’t know how to continue the interview!

Answer: I gave you quite a few examples and explanations during the five minutes just now. My answer is exactly what I said earlier. May I ask whether we can discuss questions related to this position at Quanta now?

Ah-Hong: No, because I don’t know how to continue asking questions!

(5) Which other companies are you interviewing with?

Answer: I’m also interviewing for similar companies and positions. I’m sorry, but I’d prefer to withhold the specific company names for now.

Ah-Hong: I don’t understand! What do you mean, withhold? I don’t know how to continue the interview!

Answer: I don’t think that’s very related to this position at Quanta, is it?

Ah-Hong: Of course it is! I think it’s related!

(6) I really don’t know how to continue this interview. I feel that your personality traits aren’t suitable for our company!

Answer: I’m sorry, but which traits are unsuitable? I’d be interested to hear more. Could you explain a little?

Ah-Hong: Your personality traits aren’t suitable for our company... That concludes today’s interview!
