Pros

1. Learn to be meticulous—examining everything under a microscope.

2. Learn upward management—speaking and acting cautiously while taking care of everyone’s feelings.

3. Learn to multitask extensively—taking on tasks from other teams and taking full responsibility for them.

Cons

1. The company is living in its past glory. Its performance is declining, yet it is unable or unwilling to innovate, and it lacks experienced people to provide direction.

2. Regarding vertical communication, senior management mainly focuses on how to deal with the leader’s micromanagement. All kinds of trivial matters require a lengthy approval process, causing frontline employees to spend considerable effort not only on operations but also on answering and attending to the various questions and concerns of senior management and the leader.

3. All teams are severely understaffed, while the number of tasks continues to increase. Senior management is incapable of managing staffing and schedules effectively (or takes employees’ contributions for granted). After committing to work items with the leader in important meetings, they then pressure lower-level managers and frontline employees to make time. Planned schedules are constantly interrupted by supposedly higher-priority tasks. Some of these tasks may involve constraints or difficulties, or even have obvious negative impacts, but because senior management has already committed to them with the leader (or because no one dares to object to the leader’s direct orders), there is no room for discussion; they can only be forced through. If the results are ineffective after launch, the decision-makers shift the blame to the implementers, who can only make superficial, stopgap fixes based on the existing decisions.

4. Emotional senior management.
