Pros

The colleagues in engineering get along pretty well, and most of them are around the same age. Aside from the old-timers, everyone is a newcomer. There’s also milk to drink.

Cons

The machines are so old that they can’t even produce accurate data, yet the company still refuses to replace them. Basically, working a shift alone is exhausting. They said they would hire more people, but they still haven’t managed to, even after all this time. Equipment parts often malfunction, and we’re expected to repair them ourselves. A bunch of procedures aren’t followed according to the SOP; instead, it depends on the mood of the veterans.

The deputy manager is good at giving you an extra push when you’re already standing on the edge of a cliff—and it’s completely pointless. They’re just waiting to retire.

The company believes that everyone might steal confidential information, so data is completely disconnected between departments (except for ISO documents). Finding the true cause of an abnormality requires going around in a huge circle, by which time a whole batch of things has already broken down.

Even when you take leave according to the rules, you still get harassed, and the attendance deductions are ridiculous. Taking one day of personal leave results in three days being deducted, and the deductions accumulate. Taking one day of annual leave results in two days being deducted. It’s absolutely absurd! If management wants to get rid of you, even the smallest reason can be used to punish or transfer you.

5S and 6S are already enough to drive people crazy, and now they want to automatically upgrade to 7S. There are inspections every week, and each department has to find someone to blame (no matter how ridiculous the reason is; one time, I wasn’t even there and still got blamed). The environmental, safety, and health department is basically the Eastern Depot—they can go after you without following company regulations (or when the company hasn’t even established any regulations). The quality-control, engineering, and process departments aren’t allowed to eat or drink beverages in the office. It really feels like we’re being singled out.

They call it continuous operation, but when you’re working alone, you still have to go to the cafeteria just to eat, and the logic of leaving the machine unattended is also quite something.

The salary discussed is the total salary, while the base pay is pushed very low and only brought up by stacking on a bunch of strange allowances. The bonus is painfully small, and the year-end bonus is less than one month’s salary. QQ.

In summary, it’s basically a senior operator who accidentally ended up with “engineer” in their job title.
