Pros

Because Nanyang Street is right next door, there are plenty of food and drink options (though whether they taste good is subjective). However, you should avoid eating at the same time as most of the students, or you may spend your entire break waiting in line for food.

Transportation is very convenient.

Cons

At the time, my position was consultant. I imagine the secretaries, information staff, and others probably have even more grievances to vent.

1. They said you would receive training before being assigned students, but in reality they started throwing students at you without even providing training—completely throwing you into the deep end.

2. Although there is supposedly a bonus system for successfully supporting students, students are usually assigned to you because they are considered troublesome. Once you have more or less gotten them on track, they immediately take them back. As for the bonus—呵呵, I never saw one.

3. But if you fail to support the students successfully, it is still your fault.

4. Whenever a colleague resigns, the workload increases significantly.

5. When the boss scolds you, they absolutely do not pull you aside for a private reprimand. Instead, they berate you in front of your entire department as if you had no dignity at all.

6. They will pressure consultants into handling matters outside their job scope (such as helping the boss write a memoir).

7. Because they cannot constantly monitor whether consultants are working diligently, the work logs that must be submitted before the end of the day require you to list your work in detail for every time slot (1–2 hours), such as which student you spoke with and which student's essay you revised.

8. Occasionally, you also have to translate short articles.

9. You still have to go to work during typhoons, because some parents and students still think it is a good time to consult a consultant about studying abroad.

10. Even if you have scheduled all your interviews, the boss may still call you over to watch how they explain things to a student you are about to take on, potentially leaving you with no chance to eat dinner at all.

11. You may also suddenly be called about work matters while on leave at home.

12. Their method of firing people is to fire you directly via LINE while you are sick and taking leave at home, lock your work access, and only then inform you that you have been fired. You have to ask for your severance pay yourself.

Other things I have heard:

A full-time senior colleague who handled all kinds of urgent translation said that the boss thought his salary was somewhat high and that keeping him during the off-season was a loss, and asked whether his salary could be reduced during the off-season.

It is extremely responsibility-based. I heard that during the busy season, the sales staff rushed to catch the last MRT train every day.

A colleague resigned as soon as she discovered she was pregnant. When trying to persuade her to stay, the supervisor would even say, “I don’t think this is any reason to resign.” But with the kind of situations where you get messed with every day, if you do not resign, you might end up being driven to a miscarriage.

This job lets you experience all kinds of monstrous parents—genuinely, I’m not exaggerating.

The turnover among colleagues is extremely high; if you stay for more than a year, you count as a veteran.
