Pros
1. The base salary is average, but when benefits and bonuses are included, the annual income can be comparable to that of companies in leading industries. (For levels eligible for bonuses. Those not receiving bonuses are also around the median.)
2. There is a lot of overtime. Those looking to earn overtime pay may want to consider it. (For levels eligible for overtime pay)
1. Beware of the relatives-and-friends network!!! Some colleagues in relatively ordinary positions may be relatives or friends of very senior executives. Be careful not to offend them!!!
2. Keep your distance from colleagues who have been blacklisted by the relatives-and-friends network, to avoid being seen as part of the same group!!
If you accidentally run afoul of either of the above, your only option is to change companies. If you continue staying, you will just be struggling while people hold you underwater.
Sometimes baseless faults will be pinned on you (even if they are someone else’s mistakes; or even if you were merely passing by). Although there will be no disciplinary action, it still feels terrible, right!?
Otherwise, they may force you to transfer to a mainland China plant, and the position you are transferred to may not be in your area of expertise.
3. The issue of overtime
Some levels are still allowed to report overtime, but if your supervisor discovers that you reported overtime, they will sneer and ask you, “Is your position really suitable for reporting overtime? Isn’t that an OP’s prerogative?”
Put another way, the boss really likes everyone working overtime to get more things done, but opposes reporting overtime.
Many people often have to stay very late to produce data for the next day’s reports, etc. However, everyone is used to clocking out a little after eight and then returning to continue working on unfinished tasks. Once they are done, they leave via a route without a time-clock record (or ask a night-shift colleague to clock out for them), pick up their vehicle, and go home.
If everything is finished or has reached a stopping point, can you work normal hours? Personally, I recommend developing the habit of leaving work two hours late. Since many people do this, you will notice that some colleagues spend those two hours chatting, gossiping, shopping online, playing mobile games, smoking, and so on (when the boss is absent). When the boss is present, they may open emails, charts, and so on (sometimes these screens have been open since the morning or afternoon).
4. In some work areas, safety protections are not fully adequate. Please be especially careful and do not prioritize convenience.
