Pros

1. Apart from the outdated computer equipment, the work environment is otherwise very good.

The toilet is equipped with a bidet, and the kitchen has a microwave, gas stove, rice cooker, and other appliances available for use. A cleaning lady tidies up every day.

2. You can often see new faces. Even now, you can still see an average of 5–10 new faces each month.

3. The boss’s wife has tremendous power; those who win her favor rule the world.

4. The boss’s wife is considerate of employees and often buys snacks and treats for them.

5. There is a birthday party every month, with more cake than anyone can finish.

6. The female managers who have been with the company for more than five years are all nice—about three people in total.

7. You can learn various techniques for practicing the art of Tai Chi—figuratively speaking, ways of deflecting responsibility.

8. There is one fixed employee trip every year. They are all quite fun, and the food is excellent.

9. The company atmosphere is like that of a civilian government agency: calm and slow-paced.

10. There is a lot of repetitive work, so it is easy to become proficient. There is no need to rush to achieve greater efficiency.

11. To emphasize once again: those who win the boss’s wife’s favor rule the world. As long as you curry her favor, reaching senior management within six months is not just a dream.

Cons

1. The responsibilities and authority of the company’s various departments are unclear, causing employees to push work onto one another.

2. Many long-time employees have perfected the art of deflecting responsibility, pushing all the work onto newcomers.

3. One manager in a fairly senior position at the company actually cannot do anything. Everyone knows it but dares not expose it, because the manager sometimes wins the boss’s wife’s favor. The manager’s greatest skill is gossip: the topics cover everything, including the company’s past secrets, matters concerning the boss’s wife, and the private affairs of the company’s “royal family.” It is used to make small talk and build familiarity over tea; even if you do not want to listen, you still have to.

4. Internal announcements are issued frequently, but there is no visible improvement—everything feels like a mere formality.

5. People are constantly coming and going. The person in front of you today may not be there tomorrow, leaving everyone on edge. You often only hear that someone else has been laid off, but you may not even remember which person that was—they leave before you have time to remember them...
