Pros

Speaking as someone who was once a junior salesperson at this company, being able to learn from clients (all well-known companies whose names everyone knows and with whom the company has worked for many years) and from the boss was beneficial.

From the client side: Since we had genuinely been working together for a long time, collaborating with clients allowed me to learn a little about the project processes of large companies. I also improved my presentation skills and learned how to schedule project timelines. For someone just entering the workforce, it was a good experience.

The boss himself: Well, if you want to hone your EQ and patience, this boss is the person you want to work with—guaranteed to improve them significantly. After all, there are all kinds of people in the workplace. It is better to encounter someone like this early so you will know how to respond and conduct yourself next time. However, this level is somewhat high and beyond what ordinary people would expect, so be mentally prepared. For a newcomer to the workforce, it is still a good experience!

Cons

Doing your job well is expected, but do not expect the boss to remember it. If you make a mistake, you had better accept it, because he will definitely take notes on it (no matter how minor). He will absolutely berate you until you do not dare to discuss your salary with him; anything can become ammunition, and he will talk as if you are completely useless. On top of that, there is overtime every few days, and requests for overtime pay will be rejected. Although the overtime hours are not as long as those in the design department, they are still enough to wear you down. Do you think that is the end of it? Projects often get stuck in his hands and take a long time to move forward, mostly because of the boss. Of course, the boss also wants clients to see the best possible result, but in situations like this, you are made to play the company’s bad cop and get chewed out by your clients. Usually, though, your clients know about the boss’s issues—it seems that the salespeople who worked with them before also complained to their contacts, haha. Still, you cannot avoid getting a good dressing-down.

If you want to learn any work-related skills from the boss, all I can say is: do not expect too much. Asking your colleagues and clients for advice is what really helps. The boss will say that he is a designer, not a salesperson, and cannot teach you these things, but when it comes time to prepare a quotation, he suddenly acts just like a salesperson.

In short: This company is not truly terrible, but its biggest problem is the boss himself. He will tie your hands and feet, but you can also learn from the experience how to deal with this type of person, so it is not entirely bad.
