1.5-hour lunch break

1. The boss is an irritable old man who constantly sends messages and makes phone calls to control employees, regardless of working hours. He repeats the same things over and over and frequently verbally abuses employees.

2. The manager got the position only because she is the boss’s girlfriend. She cannot do anything and only fake-smiles and pretends to work. She is extremely disdainful toward newcomers, but when you are leaving, she puts on a friendly, auntie-like act.

3. The longest-serving employee in the company speaks unclearly in heavily accented Taiwanese Mandarin and has outdated ideas. She deliberately withholds training from newcomers so they will get scolded. If you ask her a question, she immediately starts loudly berating people, showing none of the maturity or composure expected of someone her age and experience.

4. The accountant has a strange personality and is very good at ordering people around. She uses her age as leverage to make younger employees do tasks that are part of her own responsibilities.

5. During interviews, they tell sales candidates that there are bonuses, but in reality there are none. The boss only tells you that you are doing a great job, while taking the clients for himself.

6. The company’s equipment is extremely old. The chairs are peeling and their wheels are broken, but they still are not replaced.

7. The daily business-trip allowance is only NT$600. If a trip falls on a Saturday or Sunday, you can only get one day of compensatory leave, and they do not even pay overtime.

8. There are an excessive number of surveillance cameras inside the company. I heard that the boss monitors employees’ computer screens and has placed voice recorders to listen in on coworkers’ conversations.

9. The atmosphere at work is very gloomy. Coworkers do not chat with one another, and if you become too close to a coworker or develop too good a relationship, one of you will be dismissed for no reason.
