Pros

(1) Work hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and you can usually leave on time (if you finish your work).

(2) The coworkers are all very nice and easy to get along with.

(3) The company provides snacks. As long as the “administrative staff” are still around, they will keep restocking them.

(4) The boss “seems” very sincere.

(5) Taking leave does not result in a deduction from that day’s pay (so taking leave too many times makes it easy to be remembered—for example, once a month).

Cons

(1) The boss really likes eating with employees, so even break time feels a lot like entertaining a client (everyone pays for their own meal).

(2) The benefits are inadequate, and various benefits depend on the boss’s mood.

(3) The company is a start-up and had only been established for a little over two days, so there are no senior managers or employees internally who can guide you. You have to solve many things yourself. The boss does not understand the professional aspects of this industry and has only learned the basics.

(4) The company’s clients are almost all pharmaceutical companies (most of the company’s work consists of animation projects, manuals, and layout work). Pharmaceutical company clients often have more conservative mindsets, so the work cannot be too youthful or creative. For example, animations tend to be more like PowerPoint animations. The work is not fulfilling, and the portfolio you build may make it difficult to move on to a better company.

(5) For a 2–3 minute motion animation project, the boss requires the storyboard to be completed in “three days” (the projects are all medical content, and designers need to first absorb and process a lot of information before they can develop the content); coloring the drafts digitally must also be completed in “three days”; and the animation is likewise required to be completed in “three days” (three to five days, but if it takes five days, you will definitely be criticized). I believe people in the same industry can imagine from these deadlines that the quality cannot be very good, but if the work looks too ugly, you will still be criticized.

(6) The boss often forgets things, especially matters related to benefits, so employees have to advocate for themselves.

(7) Once you are labeled, you can never shake it off. No matter how much time passes, you will still be criticized, and this may even become a reason for not giving you a raise.

Overall, regarding the company’s situation: since it is a start-up, it has the various advantages and disadvantages of a start-up.

The convenience of various things is actually based on the company’s lack of完善 systems, and the company is not very stable either.

I think designers who want to join this company need to consider their future direction carefully; if things go badly, it may be difficult to find another job later.

To be honest, the company’s work is almost always very boring and has no competitiveness, leaning heavily toward graphic production work.

Especially for animators, the boss requires them to complete their work using “plugins,” believing that animators who hand-key animations are not fit to be animators because it wastes too much time. Over time, the role becomes more like that of an After Effects technician.

I hope you will not see the cute character designs, logos, and cute websites on the company’s social media page and decide to come give it a try. On actual projects, there is rarely enough time—or client approval—for you to produce work at that level of quality, so please consider this carefully.
