Working hours are generally normal and fixed, but some project-based roles are just as grueling as those elsewhere. Salaries are paid on time, there is always a year-end bonus, and you do get all the leave you’re entitled to. Overall, this is probably the most normal company in the industry right now. Companies elsewhere are all sweatshops, which is why so many people leave for a while and then come back. Only those who joined early got unbelievably high salaries; sorry to those who joined later—we’ve already squeezed everything out of the company, so there isn’t much room left to help you get a raise. These days, we just do as little as possible and hang on as long as we can. Quality is what it is. Basically, there are too many people making decisions, so projects take forever and still can’t get resolved. Every year before the Lunar New Year, managers and people who are inexplicably unrelated to one another arrange a company year-end banquet, raising selfie sticks and toasting in celebration. It seems as though they’re mocking the employees below who work hard and actually create value, as if we were idiots: “You do the work; we reap the rewards.” Living the good life.
There may be layoffs at any time.
