The hurt heart that was wounded here only needs iodine—there are no advantages at all.
This happened some time ago.
I left after staying for only three days.
The offer I received was NT$25,000. The point is, I had many years of sales experience, and the boss gave me the title of Sales Manager.
At this point, many people probably already think this is outrageous, right?
Furthermore, during the interview, the boss told me that I would simply go out with them to do sales and learn how to develop clients—that would be my job.
But during those three days, I not only experienced cold-calling; I also had to learn how to write proposals and create mind maps. The point is, no one even taught me how to use the software.
If I hadn't been a white-hat hacker for more than a decade—even though I didn't graduate from a computer science department—there would have been no way I could have done it.
The point is, no one taught me how to operate the software, nor did anyone teach me the logic behind proposals and mind maps. I researched and developed the structure myself and produced them.
Then, suddenly, I was told to do a mock presentation with the other colleagues. Several people, including a Sales Manager under the boss, just kept criticizing me. After criticizing me, they told me to go back, think about it, and present it again. (The point is, they provided absolutely no valuable training or advice.) After I presented it two or three times and was humiliated, that senior Sales Manager actually said that I might not be suitable for the job. He claimed that I looked like I looked down on them, and said that he had heard I had apparently been doing pretty well at my previous company. If I still thought my previous company was better, I could go back.
What confused me was that my actual job duties were completely different from what had been described in the interview. And as for what that guy was talking about, I couldn't understand it at all... (Because during those three days, my relationship with my colleagues was basically one of mutual courtesy.)
Furthermore, I was forced to work overtime every day. My girlfriend waited downstairs for me from my 5 p.m. finishing time until after 7 p.m., and they showed no intention whatsoever of letting me leave work.
Fortunately, my years of work experience told me it was time to leave. This place was completely dysfunctional, so I packed up my things and left directly after work on the third day.
To add one final detail: during those three days, the company did not have a computer available for me to use at all. I brought my own laptop.
Now, let me talk about my current situation. I returned to the familiar sales field. Of course, it is a different company. I am now the head of the largest sales department under the boss, with an annual salary of approximately NT$1.35 million. Over the past year and a half, I also bought the first car of my life.
Thank you to the boss of Cross-Boundary Digital and the executive who was close friends with the boss. Thank you both for helping me quickly discover that the company was unhealthy and leave quickly, without wasting too much of my youth. I also learned how to be a manager who helps employees grow and develop a stronger sense of commitment to the company.
I am extremely grateful.
