Interview: Product Designer (UI/UX Designer)
The interviewer was quite candid and did not gloss over the drawbacks of the job. At the beginning of the interview, they proactively introduced the job responsibilities before asking me to introduce myself. Applicants who are not selected are notified by email.
1. Before the interview, I was asked to complete a small assignment: propose UX improvements for the event通 website/app. It felt somewhat like this interview was being used as a meeting to collect optimization suggestions.
2. The interviewer has been the company’s only PM in recent years. There were previously two UI/UX designers, both of whom worked in coordination with this person, so if there are any poorly conceived designs on event通, they can usually be traced back to this individual.
3. Based on the interviewer’s description of the role, it sounds like the UI portion accounts for more than 80%, with few opportunities to conduct UX validation.
4. When discussing poorly designed areas on event通, the PM usually brushes them off with reasons such as “we were in a hurry at the time” or “we didn’t think it was important.” Under the leadership of the same PM, there is no guarantee that future designs will not continue to be heavily compromised under these supposedly “unavoidable” circumstances.
5. The interviewer places a strong emphasis on candidates’ aesthetic sense, so this job should actually be called UI Designer. However, designing a UI that looks better than the existing event通 apparently does not require the skill level of a Dribbble guru....
6. The office environment is old and somewhat unattractive.
