When the 22K program first started, the company hired several recent university graduates, and it was pleasant interacting with people of the same age.
It is a family business, so the boss and the second generation often travel to mainland China and other countries. If you are in the sales department, you may have the opportunity to go along.
There are opportunities to work with large and international companies.
Although the boss is older, his thinking is intelligent and flexible. He often asks people thought-provoking questions (but the answers have to be pleasing to hear).
1. It has all the disadvantages typically found in family businesses. Having ability is less important than sharing the same surname, clan, or religion.
2. After an attractive female colleague joined the company, she became the second-generation boss’s wife.
3. The first-generation boss’s wife often interfered in business matters, creating an insider-versus-outsider dynamic and causing conflicts over business direction and execution. In 2009, several university graduates hired under the 22K program resigned voluntarily because neither their salaries nor their work content were valued. The company disregarded their supervisor’s contributions during the period when he had worked hard to build up the rudimentary factory, and instead believed that the supervisor had incited the naïve university graduates, so they maliciously dismissed him (he was told on the same day not to come back). It also took a long time for the supervisor to receive his severance pay.
4. Because the boss is very domineering, turnover is high, and the company is perpetually hiring.
5. The boss’s wife’s famous saying: “We should look for more university graduates from rural areas—they are more obedient.”
6. The Filipino employees their family hired under some unknown arrangement were sometimes told to operate machinery and then cook for the people in the office.
7. They make grand promises fairly often and seem to have a strong vision, but in reality they feel somewhat like outsiders in the industry. Their main products use No. 7 plastic, which is not recyclable.
8. The location is remote and transportation is inconvenient, with little food available nearby.
