Pros

1. There are three bonus payments (paid in cash directly into your account; I received NT$3,000 for both the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival), as well as employee gifts (such as coffee machines).

2. Salaries have never been late, and the year-end bonus is never delayed until after the New Year.

3. The compensation should rank near the top in the publishing industry.

Cons

1. An overtime culture is the norm. If you leave work at a normal time too often, your supervisor will ask, “Are you sure your heart is really in this job?”

2. The owner’s comments within the company reveal a bias favoring men over women.

3. There is a gap between senior management’s ideas and frontline realities. Every meeting consists of listening to the same old clichés. If senior management realizes that they have been saying the same things all along, have they ever considered why frontline employees are unable to achieve “change” in practice?

4. Once a year, employees are compulsorily mobilized to attend a large-scale meeting, filling seats so that there are not too many empty ones. For employees whose schedules are already extremely busy, this is both boring and disruptive to their work progress.

5. At the end of every month, HR requires all employees whose attendance times do not conform to standard working hours to use paper forms to “manually adjust” their attendance times to standard working hours. Of course, this is not intended to evade the fact that overtime was worked, since you can still apply for overtime compensation (compensatory leave). However, this practice of making employees delete and alter their actual working hours themselves in order to avoid labor inspections feels very wrong.

6. Salary adjustments are passive. Unless you are certain to be promoted to a higher position, your salary will never be increased.
