R&D still has to make its own prototypes? Fine, whatever. Turning, milling, and welding are one thing, but try bending a 100×100×500 square tube without a machine and see!! If sales are so good, how come no vendor is willing to make a prototype? Who exactly are you trying to make things difficult for?
