Giving up time with family on national holidays to work is compensated at only 1.3 times the regular pay instead of double pay. Although compensatory leave is provided, there are many restrictions, making it impossible to use freely. Management really depends on luck: things go smoothly when you meet a good supervisor, but encountering a colleague who makes things difficult or even deliberately frames you is like adding insult to injury. And there’s more: employees are required to arrive more than ten minutes early to copy out materials before clocking in, and after clocking out, they are pressured to finish writing the day’s announcements and thank-you cards before they can leave. In the most outrageous cases, staying an extra fifty minutes is not an exaggeration.
