All kinds of idiot customers fail to disarm the system before entering and require confirmation.

All kinds of idiots forget their keys and demand that we open the door for them; after work, they forget their keys and demand that we lock the door for them. (If you forgot your keys, please go home and figure it out yourself, okay?)

Overtime that wasn’t scheduled still has to be confirmed. (Sometimes I really feel like an idiot: if it wasn’t scheduled, that’s your problem. Why dispatch someone? Is it to confirm whether someone has worked so much overtime that they’re about to collapse?)

All kinds of large sites and schools. At three in the morning, I’m walking around a school just to find a door that has popped open.

The site can’t be armed just because one window wasn’t closed? (When I first arrived, the customer was extremely aggressive. I took her to the restroom to look at the window and ended up apologizing like a grandson.)

Tasks range from going to customers’ homes to feed cats, dogs, and fish, to killing cockroaches, catching mice, and killing spiders.

The company is great—the current customer-to-night-shift-staff ratio is 4:3,800.

Only four people are providing service, so we often spend the entire night running around.

Even when you’re halfway through a meal, the control center dispatches you.

The work never ends. (And this is only the night shift; there’s a pile of daytime handovers, plus you still have to respond to incidents.)

You have to ride around everywhere in the rain wearing a raincoat.

Don’t go out during a typhoon? Eat shit! During a typhoon, you’re expected to run until you drop—until you feel like submitting a resignation report.

The company keeps shouting that it’s short-staffed. No kidding. For NT$35,000 a month, you have to work yourself to death.

They make it sound great: “It’s only 12 hours.” But each shift drags on another half hour for handover, meetings, and wrapping up before clocking out.

That’s all I’ll say for today. There’s plenty more to rant about.
