Interviewed for a test engineer position.
First, a little about my background: I have one year of software testing experience, but it was mainly manual testing. I couldn't even read logs, yet the company proactively invited me to interview.
It felt like HR had not reviewed my résumé beforehand. After I arrived, they then said that my skills were insufficient.
The job description on 104 was unclear. During the interview, discussing it with HR and the hiring manager still did not give me a detailed understanding of the actual job duties or the skills that would be required (although, on the other hand, I was also insufficiently prepared and unable to ask more in-depth and direct questions).
I felt that the manager was focused on talking about himself, as if he really needed someone to listen to him. After listening carefully to everything he said, I tried to keep up with his train of thought and then added a little of my own understanding, saying, “So the purpose of doing this is to…”
He would say whether I was right or wrong, but I think I performed quite well in this part. My understanding was on point; it just seemed that he was not really paying much attention to assessing me and simply wanted to talk.
At the end, he asked me, “Is there anything else you’d like to add?”
I said no. I admit that I was not well prepared for this interview, but I felt that when it came to selecting and hiring for a specific position, they did not have particularly clear standards or considerations regarding skills, experience, or personality traits.
I also asked HR about training. She asked me in return, “How do you know there is training?”
I said, “Normally, a company of your size would have training.”
My personal assessment is that other departments may offer training, but the job duties, training, and selection and hiring criteria for this department were unclear.
If you are a newcomer with insufficient ability and experience, you may want to think twice.
In short, the interview result: fail.
Three months later, I received another invitation to interview. Hmm…
