The boss took over the business from the previous generation, but having previously worked as a teacher, they are too gentle and refined to deal with suppliers effectively. Lacking general workplace experience, some of their ideas are rather naive, and the company has no clear direction. On the surface, the boss’s wife thanks you and engages in polite social talk, but she actually has the mindset of a bad employer.
Overtime is the norm in winter. Apart from periods of exceptionally high order volumes, more than half of the overtime is also due to suppliers’ quality problems. These quality issues have persisted: out of about 100 items inspected, only around 10 can barely be shipped. The entire company’s workforce has to be mobilized for inspection and packing, regardless of whether you work in graphic design or marketing. Overtime pay does not include the 1.33 times premium, let alone the 1.66 times premium for overtime exceeding two hours. There is also no meal allowance or provided lunch boxes—just some snacks occasionally.
It is a company where you can coast toward retirement, but the pay is not high, and there is no visible future.
