衛生福利部臺北醫院
Pros

1. The hospital has a staff cafeteria, where lunch costs only NT$50 (four dishes and one soup), making it quite affordable (a meal-ticket book with ten tickets costs NT$500). The hospital emphasizes environmental protection: use the dining hall’s plates or bring your own utensils; disposable takeaway containers incur an additional charge (meal-container tickets must be purchased in advance).

2. NT$100 convenience-store gift voucher for birthdays.

3. Staff trips (one-day and two-day trips).

4. Year-end appreciation banquet.

Cons

1. The cafeteria’s dishes are largely the same from day to day. It opens at 11:30 a.m., but by a little after noon there is no food left, as most of it has been taken by volunteers who reserve seats (five dishes and one soup). The portion sizes vary greatly, and there are occasionally foreign objects in the food. In winter, the food is often cold, and the utensils are not particularly hygienic or clean. Nursing staff also frequently have no dishes available and can only order delivery.

2. The birthday vouchers differ between the hospital’s convenience stores: vouchers for FamilyMart are issued when the store is Hi-Life, and vice versa.

3. Staff trips are mostly to free attractions, have limited capacity, and provide only NT$700 in subsidy. The subsidy has tended to decrease year by year. For example: a one-day trip costs NT$1,400, with NT$700 paid out of pocket; a two-day trip costs NT$5,000, with NT$4,300 paid out of pocket.

4. Nursing staff who are on duty cannot participate in the year-end banquet at all. However, boxed meals are provided. The quality of the dishes has declined year by year, and the raffle prizes have become increasingly underwhelming.
