The hourly wage was low. At the time, the basic hourly wage was 120, but I was paid 115. I worked there for 10 months and was still only getting 115.
Actually, I should have been able to report it to the labor bureau at the time, but I didn’t know any better—I was still young.
The division of labor was unclear. When it was busy, it was okay because everyone was busy. When it wasn’t busy, though, damn—many of them would go inside to take a break and scroll on their phones.
If you weren’t very good at chatting and joking around, you were the one stuck watching the outside area.
Those who were better at building relationships with the shareholders could go into the kitchen to smoke and play on their phones.
It felt really awful. We were all part-time workers, and no one cared about those of us who were exhausted like dogs. Being good at chatting and joking around was actually the way to get ahead.
