Pros

The only advantage is that the office is in a CBD building, which is very beautiful. Nothing else.

Cons

First, the conclusion: cherish your life and stay away from Shangwei (or Marshall Islands-based Ming Kai International Co., Ltd., or Huanfu).

1. A frightening responsibility-based system: The company’s actual registered name is Marshall Islands-based Ming Kai International Co., Ltd. If you search this name online, you can find records of it being fined by the Taichung City Labor Affairs Bureau for failing to pay overtime. In practice, the company operates under a responsibility-based system. The company will tell you, “You can’t claim overtime just because there’s a lot of work.” (Then can you only claim overtime when there’s little work?!) The company says its principle is that employees should not work overtime to process orders. The paradox is that there is so much work that employees routinely work until seven or eight o’clock. Even people who have only been there for one or two weeks work late, yet no one reports overtime. That tells you what the company’s principle really is... During the interview, however, they told me that everyone generally worked only slightly past six. Is lying during interviews the trend now?

2. High turnover: The company has only a little over ten employees in total, divided into two teams. In one team, one person left in June and two left in July. I’m not even counting those who wanted to leave but had not yet done so.

3. Unequal pay for equal work: For the same job, there are several different starting salaries. However, having more work does not necessarily mean you will earn more. In short, if you enjoy being taken advantage of, or want to embrace hardship as a virtue, this place is very suitable for you.
