Pros

When there’s no one around, you can slack off a little.

Cons

1. Exhausting as hell, and the store manager doesn’t know how to train people.

2. Part-time employees don’t receive labor or health insurance. High monthly hours, low pay... the average hourly wage is effectively about NT$20 lower.

3. There are no breaks. If you want to eat lunch or dinner, you have to find free time to eat, and it’s very unpredictable.

You often can’t even finish eating after an hour, and you lose your appetite. You’re also not allowed to go out to buy food.

4. You clock in when you start work, but clocking out is based on a system of personal responsibility.

5. If the register is short, you have to pay for the difference; if it has extra money, it still belongs to the company. They even charge you for paper cups.

6. Incorrect top-ups or wrong machine-opening transactions can’t be canceled or refunded—they’re all charged to you. Even if the customer said it wrong, you have to resolve it with the customer yourself.

7. You’re fined for forgetting to clock in or out: NT$500 each time.

8. A group of strange older men and vagrants.

9. No benefits at all, and no extra holiday pay either—a serious violation of the Labor Standards Act.

10. The quality of the employees varies widely.
