The worst work experience of my life, without a doubt!!!
It has been over 10 years since I left this company, but I feel uneasy keeping this to myself, as it could harm other passionate young people who enter the workplace with dreams.
1. Clock in when you start work, but follow a responsibility-based system when you leave: The head of the business department would disappear after noon and often arrive at the office very late (after 3 p.m.; sometimes returning to the office smelling strongly of alcohol). All official documents had to wait for his review before work could begin, effectively forcing everyone to work overtime.
2. People who just want to work properly may have trouble making a living here: The head of the business department would endlessly discuss office politics with you— which colleagues were involved and how to get rid of them—and complain to you about his parents, family, and all sorts of other things…
3. Salary below market rate: At the time, I had just graduated and only wanted a job. The person who paid my salary even bragged to a supplier that he had spent very little to hire someone with a decent educational background and good value for money. I worked overtime every day to catch the last MRT home, only to receive a three-digit year-end bonus…
4. Very poor office atmosphere: When the boss was in a good mood, everything was fine, but unfortunately he frequently went on rampages, berating employees as if they were someone else’s children. Only long-term employees could tolerate it.
Although I was there for a very short time, I was already poisoned by such a toxic environment. At the time, I thought I had to endure it and not be treated as a “spoiled strawberry,” but I didn’t realize that these people enjoyed workplace bullying. It was completely unreasonable, and there was no need to put up with it. This was the situation when I worked there over 10 years ago, and I don’t know whether things have improved now, but job seekers, please keep your eyes wide open and trust your instincts. I later did very well at another, normal company. Although it took me a long time to rebuild my confidence, I hope young people just entering the workforce will trust their intuition. If the environment is bad, don’t force yourself—it’s not your fault. Stay away from toxic environments; it benefits both your mental and physical well-being.
