Pros

1. The salary offered during the interview was quite high, giving you a sense of anticipation at first.

2. Another advantage for me was that it was very close to home.

3. Those interested in textiles can come take a look, since there are relatively few opportunities like this in central Taiwan.

Cons

1. A typical traditional industry company—the boss’s way of thinking is traditional too.

2. At the beginning, during the interview, the boss directly offered you a figure (quite high, at NT$38,000). But after actually joining the company, I found that it calculates pay by “daily wage,” and the salary consists of a base salary plus bonuses (of course, they use all sorts of reasons to deduct your bonuses). According to senior employees, it is basically low base pay and high bonuses (we’re not salespeople—we’re office staff).

3. The salary standard looks good on paper but is out of reach in practice. The notice board is filled with rules about deductions (you can tell the boss isn’t very generous).

4. You can’t take annual leave (they say the long-term employees have accumulated too much annual leave and can’t use it all), but it will be converted into money and paid with the year-end bonus (so if you don’t stay until then, you won’t receive it?).

5. But when you see the notice board say that, starting in a certain month, every Friday will be unpaid leave, you realize it’s not because there’s too much work to allow time off—it’s because the boss doesn’t want to pay. Extremely stingy.

6. The most outrageous thing to me was that “taking a national holiday off will result in a bonus deduction.” So that’s why it’s low base pay plus high bonuses. According to senior employees, taking the Lunar New Year holiday (yes, you heard that right—even taking the New Year holiday results in a deduction) led to nearly NT$10,000 being deducted. Truly outrageous.

7. No matter what kind of leave you take, including sick leave, your perfect-attendance bonus will be deducted. Taking one day off means one day’s pay is deducted; taking two days off means three days’ pay is deducted (completely unreasonable).

8. The boss has a very strange attitude, saying that people have plenty of holidays nowadays (so when the government makes a public holiday a day off, the idea is to find a way to deduct your pay, right? XD). I also think this may already violate the Labor Standards Act.

9. The working environment is terrible. During the interview, I was told that I would only need to do drafting, but in reality, I spent much more time at the factory site, and there was no air conditioning. It’s not that I can’t handle hard conditions, but why not explain this clearly from the beginning? The same goes for many other things.

10. In summary, the boss will offer you a very high salary, but a bunch of strange rules will deduct all your money.
