Read the community guidelines1 The company provides free lunch, but the dishes are almost always the same.
2 The colleagues are pretty nice.
3 There is a travel allowance, but it is only NT$500 per day.
1 Although work starts at 8:30, you have to arrive early to clean your assigned area, which must be completed before 8:30.
2 Work ends at 17:30, but if you leave too early, the boss will scold you.
3 The boss swears at employees and often takes out their temper on them.
4 Some of the senior employees have generally poor abilities, and communication is often problematic.
5 One person has to do many different jobs. Although you apply for a sales assistant position, you are also required to work on-site as an operator.
6 In summer, the air conditioning in the employee office can only be turned on in the afternoon. The boss's office has air conditioning running all day.
7 The boss smokes directly in the office.
8 The sales assistant has to handle much of the work that warehouse and shipping staff should be doing.
9 Internet access is restricted. After 8:00, if you are not logged into the communication software, you cannot access the internet, effectively forcing you to start work early.
10 There is overtime pay, but practically no one dares to apply for it because of the company culture.
The work is monotonous and repetitive.
Colleagues are generally very nice.
Lunch is provided. Although it can't be considered bad, it is definitely nowhere near tasty.
Many senior colleagues don't eat it (they either bring their own meals or secretly buy food during work-related errands); foreign employees almost never eat it.
Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (with an extra half-hour commonly imposed).
Everyone is assigned an area to clean, whether it is the office or the worksite, and this must be done outside working hours.
Worksite hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with two additional 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break).
In principle, the worksite expects you to work overtime until 8:00 p.m.
You cannot leave work on time. The boss has stated directly that leaving on time will result in a deduction from your year-end bonus.
After the probation period, four people, including myself, are known to have received no salary adjustment; the boss did not make the agreed-upon adjustments.
Compared with similar positions, the salary is NT$2,000–3,000 below average (administrative assistant: NT$28,000; year-end bonus: half a month’s salary).
The job description is misleading. Administrative assistants have to help sort, move, and pick goods, follow up on progress, and handle additional miscellaneous tasks.
Unused annual leave is not paid out. The boss schedules it for you and designates the days off, unless you have a special need; otherwise, your leave is scheduled for you.
When orders decrease, employees are required to take unpaid leave (because the worksite is unable to keep up), and then a few weeks later they start working three hours of overtime every day, five days a week.
You cannot take more than two days of annual leave per month. Taking more will result in a deduction from your pay.
You cannot take leave spanning Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to get four consecutive days off by taking two days of leave; doing so will result in a deduction from your pay.
Stationery is not provided proactively. At most, you get red and blue pens; if you need anything else, you have to ask the responsible colleague to buy it.
Correction tape and correction fluid are not provided by the company because making typos is considered your personal problem.
When the boss is in the office, you cannot order delivery; you have to go out and buy food yourself. Drinks cannot be placed on your desk (it has not been explicitly prohibited, but the boss will repeatedly lecture you about it in meetings), and drinking cups will also be criticized.
As long as the boss is in the office, the atmosphere is very oppressive.
In meetings, the boss greets people with profanity. Profanity is also a frequent catchphrase: regardless of whether you are right or wrong, he first denies what you say, then curses at you, then denies it again, and only afterward considers discussing the matter.
The boss has the final say on every decision. Other senior employees and managers do not dare say much. Decisions are extremely slow, employee rights are not a concern, and emotional decisions focus only on appearances.
In summer, you must wait until 10:00 a.m. before the air conditioning can be turned on. The person in charge decides when this starts; if they do not feel hot, you do not get any air conditioning.
The senior employees are not highly capable. Although they are nice people, their work quality is poor, making it difficult to grow professionally.
Overall, the company’s standards are roughly stuck at the level of a Taiwanese company from 30 years ago. Even in 2023, the company’s office electronic documents have no system and are shared using Windows Network Neighborhood; the computers are extremely bad~~~~ and colleagues’ office software skills are at a 30-year-ago level.
If you do not mind anything and are willing to muddle through every day, you can come here. You can have a very happy time.
