Pros

1. The company’s location is pretty good, next to Daan Forest Park at Dongmen Station.

2. The boss is very nice and talented, and generally doesn’t interfere much in departmental affairs.

3. Monthly birthday celebrations.

4. If you’re a dog lover, this should be a good choice. A dog runs around the office on weekdays.

5. The job duties are straightforward and relatively limited; overtime and business trips are not required (and no one works overtime either).

Cons

1. Not very suitable for people looking for challenges and drive. Editors have no say whatsoever in which books to select; the boss and executive assistant decide the direction of book selection, rather than focusing on publishing trends, so bestsellers are rarely published.

2. If the position is related to the Business Planning Department, go only if you don’t mind the manager’s character. The parachuted-in manager, who lacks publishing and marketing expertise (doesn’t understand things but loves to meddle), is two-faced and fond of putting on a superficial show, and the department is not harmonious.

3. The compensation is average. As with salaries in the publishing industry, it never seems to increase; it is only suitable for people who want to stay steadily until retirement.
