Cons

I interviewed for the post-production editor position at MTV. The interview was scheduled for 3:00, and I arrived at the first-floor reception desk about 10 minutes early. However, I was not taken upstairs until 3:20, leaving me sitting in the lobby waiting for 30 minutes for no reason. I then filled out the basic information form, and when the interview finally began, I discovered that the position differed in various ways from the requirements listed on 104.

1. They insisted that applicants be able to use EDIUS, but the “Preferred tools” section on 104 listed Premiere.

2. 104 stated that applicants needed “experience editing programs and short videos” and that those without the above experience should not apply. However, it was not clearly explained that they specifically required experience producing “television programs.” The programs I have produced were broadcast on a YouTube channel.

3. This department reviewed résumés very carelessly. My résumé clearly listed my previous work experience and the tools I am skilled in, yet they asked me to come for an interview without even looking at it carefully. In addition, the requirements posted on 104 did not match what they actually needed. The interviewer’s tone and attitude were extremely poor, as if I could not do anything, which left me feeling very uncomfortable.

4. The interviewer did not understand the difference between EDIUS and Premiere, and came across to me as arrogant.

5. They also did not intend to allow time for training and expected me to become proficient immediately.

Considering both the 30 minutes I spent waiting in the lobby at the beginning and the interview itself, this was my worst interview experience ever. It will be difficult for any future experience to be worse than this.
